Situated in the gap in the northern Sonoma Valley, our Annadel Gap Vineyard is the perfect match for this Rhone varietal: cool foggy mornings are replaced by warm wind-swept afternoons. The heat of the Napa Valley to our east pulls the fog and moisture away from our vineyard and between the coastal and valley influences, our site allows for the perfect amount of diurnal temperature fluctuation. Savory and elegant, more than overripe and jammy, are hallmarks for Westwood. Aromas of smoked bacon, white pepper, and green olive with a refined tannin structure.

(89-91) Points - Wine Advocate

The 2018 Syrah Annadel Gap Vineyard was made with 30% whole cluster and is to be aged in 50% new oak. A barrel sample, it has a very deep purple-black color and very peppery nose to begin, giving war to a core of warm red and black plums, black raspberries and black cherry compote plus suggestions of garrigue, mossy bark and charcuterie. Medium-bodied, refreshing and delicately played in the mouth, the palate has pleasant chew with loads of peppery notes coming through on the finish.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Savory and elegant are hallmarks of Westwood's Syrah variety. Aromas of smoked bacon, white pepper, and green olive beacon in the glass, while a refined tannin structure imparts a smooth palate experience. A hit of blackberries and blueberries is followed by a light hint of chocolate and allspice with a smooth, lingering finish.
Vineyard Notes
The Annadel Gap Vineyard is a special place. Located between Mt. Hood and the Sonoma Mountains, our estate is characterized by thick morning fog, and strong afternoon winds. Alluvial, glacial, and sedimentary influences create a wide array of soil types. Ideal growing conditions, varied soils, and our minimal-impact farming methods yield precise, balanced fruit.
Production Notes
Hand-harvested at night, the fruit was sorted and then fermented with 21% whole clusters. The wine underwent a three days cold-soak, gentle punch downs 1-3 times daily, 19 days on the skins, and was gently basket pressed to French oak barrels (95% new). Aged for 20 months then bottled unfiltered.
