2015 Westwood Mourvèdre, Annadel Gap, Sonoma Valley, Magnum
The Annadel Gap Vineyard is a special place. Located between Mt. Hood and the Sonoma Mountains, our site is characterized by thick morning fog and strong afternoon winds. Alluvial, glacial, and sedimentary influences create various soil types. The fruit was hand-harvested at night. is Tablas Creek clone was hand sorted; 45% whole clusters were included; 6 days of cold soak, gentle punch downs 1-3 times daily, 24 days on skins & gently basket pressed. Gravity fed into French oak barrels (45% new). Aged 16 months on lees, gently fined, bottled unfiltered.
Dark and rich on the nose, purple fruit notes of black cherry, plum, and mulberry with earthy redwood forest floor, cinnamon, cocoa, chocolate, and chili powder with blue flowers.
The dark fruit nose gives way to earthy porcini mushrooms, potpourri, and chocolate-covered cherries in cordial, tar, and dried cranberry. Fine and velvety in texture, lush mid-palate with chewy, elegant tannins.
