The 2017 Sonoma County Pinot Noir is a selection of rows from our own biodynamically farmed Annadel Gap Vineyard, located in the cool Northern Sonoma Valley, along with the best parcels sourced from Terre de Promissio. The wine shows sultry aromas of lavender and crushed rose petals. Flavors are filled with strawberry, raspberry, and candied orange. The mouthfeel is generous and the finish is full and balanced with bright, seamless acidity.

94 Points - Tasting Panel

Lilac, plum, and wet earth are just the first set of aromatics to grace the nose delivered by this luxe red. The palate is equally charged with flavor and perfume, from sweet molasses and wild cherry to savory mushroom. The texture is chewy, even fleshy, and the finish sparks with black pepper, spiced cedar, and sassafras.

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck

The 2017 Pinot Noir Sonoma County should represent a terrific value (I wasn’t able to get a price for this release) and it has a classic, balanced style as well as complex notes of black raspberries, spice, and smoky earth. As with everything from this estate, it’s beautifully balanced, with undeniable elegance and a great finish. I suspect it will keep for a decade.

92 Points - International Wine Report

Westwood’s 2017 Pinot Noir is farmed from 4 rows in the Annadel Gap Vineyard. It is expressive right out of the gate, with scents of ripe dark berries, plum, raspberry, currant, and cherry, along with dried leaf, dried spice and lavender. On the palate this is focused, with flavors of ripe berries, dark chocolate and red currants, along with hints of blood orange and herbs that continue to linger on the supple finish. Drink over the next 5-8 years.

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast

This is a bold, hugely concentrated wine, jammy in up-front notions of black cherry and baked strawberry. With firm silky tannins that add weight and structure, it shows its oak, letting it settle to reveal appealing accents of dried herb and Asian spice.

Vineyard Notes
100% Pinot Noir - clones 115, Mount Eden, Pommard, Calera, 943, Chambertin. Terra del Promissio Vineyard, the most designated Pinot Noir vineyard in Sonoma County. The soil, southwest sun exposure, hill elevation, vine density and the wind and fog of the Petaluma Gap allow the Terra de Promissio grapes to have a slow maturation, extended hang time—which allows optimum ripeness- ideal conditions for the pinot noir grape and part of the formula for quality that results in intensely flavored grapes that makes exceptional and age-worthy wines .
Winemaker Notes
Each Pinot Noir clone was hand-harvested individually at night. The fruit was hand sorted and fermented individually separated by clone. 6 days cold soak, gentle punch downs 1-3 times daily, 14-20 days on skins and gently basket pressed.
