2017 Estate Syrah
Situated in the gap in the northern Sonoma Valley, our Annadel Gap Vineyard is the perfect match for this Rhone varietal: cool foggy mornings are replaced by warm wind-swept afternoons. The heat of the Napa Valley to our east pulls the fog and moisture away from our vineyard and between the coastal and valley influences, our site allows for the perfect amount of diurnal temperature fluctuation. Savory and elegant, more than overripe and jammy, are hallmarks for Westwood. Aromas of smoked bacon, white pepper, green olive with an refined tannin structure.
Vinification:
Each Syrah clone was hand-harvested individually at night. The fruit was hand-sorted and fermented, individually separated by clone. Six days cold soak, gentle punch downs, 1-3 times daily, average 21 days on skins and gently basket pressed. Gravity fed to French oak barrels (79% new). Aged 19 months, then bottled unfiltered. 5 Barrels Produced
