2017 Westwood "Legend" Proprietary Red Blend, Sonoma County
Legend is opaque and dark-cherry red in appearance with bright and enticing aromas of leather, shaved chocolate, cassis, dried tobacco and black cherry. On the palate it is balanced with a beautiful dark fruit entry followed by a full mid-palate weighted with dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, and followed by finely grained, persistent tannins. This Cabernet Sauvignon blend has been complemented with the powerful and elegant Rhone varieties from our Biodynamic Annadel Estate Vineyard complement each other perfectly in this seamless and supple wine.

Winemakers Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky were the hands and minds behind the latest vintage of this wine, which is more than deserving of its name. It’s a California red with a French accent, blending 46% Cabernet Sauvignon with 25% Syrah, 19% Mourvèdre, and 10% Grenache; the Rhône varieties were grown on Westwood Estate’s Biodynamically farmed Annadel Gap Vineyard, while the Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from the Sonoma and Napa valleys. Together, they create a wine that’s alert with Old World acidity as it unleashes a waterfall of violets, plum, and black cherry skin that cascades across the lush palate. Tannins are sheathed in dark chocolate and tempered by white pepper.
93 Points - International Wine Report
The Westwood 'Legend' is a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre from Sonoma. It displays a dark color with wonderful aromas of ripe dark cherries, and raspberries underlined by lavender, damp soil, leather, exotic spices, black pepper, violets, graphite and hints of crushed rock. The palate is full-bodied with beautiful velvety tannins with a rich, deeply textured mouthfeel which is backed by a racy core of ripe dark fruits and spices. It continues to impress as it shows outstanding balance and concentration through the long, plush finish. A fantastic wine on release, but also has great aging potential.
92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
A kitchen sink blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache (there's Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in there as well), the 2017 Legend Proprietary Red Wine is a delicious, plump, fruit-loaded beauty that displays chocolatey dark currants, plums, savory herbs, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. These carry to a full-bodied red with a rounded, mouthfilling texture, plenty of ripe tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. Drink this pleasure-bent, incredibly satisfying red blend over the coming 7-8 years or more.
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This combines 46% Cabernet Sauvignon with 25% Syrah, 19% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache. From the producer's estate, it is tangy, bold and savory, with elements of crushed rock, oak, black pepper and dried herb. Sizable tannins wrap around rich layers of currant, strawberry and cassis. This could do with some time in the cellar; enjoy best from 2025–2027.
