2018 Westwood Twenty-One, Proprietary Red Blend, Annadel Gap, Sonoma Valley
Honoring the twenty-first vintage from our Biodynamically certified Annadel Gap Vineyard and representative of our very best Syrah, Mourvedre, and Grenache, this is the second vintage of our proprietary Estate Red Blend. Twenty-One marks a milestone for our Winery and our collaboration with Philippe Melka. Unfiltered, with minimum intervention. The wine shows opulent black cherries, lavender, duck confit and baking spice. Rich, full-bodied and concentrated, yet still light on its feet with balance and brightness on the palette and the signature Annadel Gap lifted acidity and elegance on the finish.

A red blend made with 68% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre, and 12% Grenache, all Biodynamically certified, Westwood's flagship should be called an SMG rather than a GSM - one that transports you to the Old World with its earthy nose, savory black fruit, and hint of garrigue and blood. Extremely complex, with volcanic and graphite notes as well as massive tannins that coat the tongue with dense and exotic spices. It's named for Westwood's 21st anniversary. ”

The 2018 Twenty-One Annadel Gap Vineyard Red Wine is a blend of 57% Syrah, 41% Mourvèdre, and 1% each of Grenache and Tannat. Deep purple-hued, with lots of blue fruits, pepper, and violet notes, this young, unevolved, primordial effort has beautiful balance, some classic Syrah gaminess, and a great finish.
93 Points | Wine Enthusiast
A proprietary blend of unknown grapes, this wine is meaty and barnyardy in style, suggesting Syrah and Grenache, as well as Mourvèdre. White pepper, lavender and game combine around a dense midpalate of powerful elegance and full-bodied intensity.

The 2018 GSM Annadel Gap Vineyard was made with 30% whole cluster and is expected to age in 50% new oak. A barrel sample, it has a very deep purple-black color and opens with opulent black cherries, warm blackberries and plum preserves notes with touches of Indian spices, Sichuan pepper, licorice and chocolate box plus a waft of lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is charged with energetic black fruit and loads of floral sparks, framed by ripe, rounded tannins, finishing long and refreshing.
