2023 Maximal Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
The wine presents a beautiful, deep ruby color. The nose is immediately captivating, with a perfumed bouquet of mulberries, lavender, and crushed violets. Layers of woodsy earthiness emerge, revealing notes of dark soil, graphite, and roasted espresso bean. On the palate, cassis and black cherry rise to the fore, beautifully complemented by a creamy undertone of raspberry mousse and a hint of sweet tobacco. The wine is structured yet graceful, with dusty, fine-grained tannins that provide a long, lingering, and elegant finish. This is a wine that drinks beautifully now and will continue to evolve and impress over the next 15 to 20 years.
The grapes were meticulously hand-harvested at night to preserve their freshness and flavor. Following a gentle hand-sorting, the fruit underwent fermentation in a closed-top stainless-steel tank, with a 15% whole cluster inclusion to enhance aromatic complexity. The wine spent 21 days on skins before being basket-pressed. It was then aged for 20 months in 80% new French oak barrels, with 20% 1-year old oak, allowing the wine to develop its structure and integrate its flavors harmoniously.
